Thanks for a phenomenal, unexpected upgrade. Several Virgin team members told me that it couldn’t be done, but the right guy made it happen. 45,000 Virgin miles and 194 pounds later, and I am upgraded and enjoying the superb Virgin clubhouse. How did I get the Virgin miles? They were transferred from AmEx. I even received a 30% bonus. They are great miles to have. Their was absolutely no way to upgrade this flight via Delta even though it was their ticket, and they own 49% of Virgin Atlantic. This is my last flight, and if you have been keeping track I have spent 0 money on food even though I have had 4 and 5* dining. I missed one flight, but was able to rebook using AmEx points. I have spent $50 and 194 pounds, but I will be getting a $150 refund. Every one of my 7 flights was in first class. I received Alaska Airlines miles and status, BA Avios and tier points and increased status, and Delta ff miles and MQM miles. I had one hotel on Saturday night with free snacks (cherry ice cream and a monster) and free breakfast. I had a free Uber ride there using AmEx points and a free shuttle to the airport where I had expedited screening and lounge access. You can do this too. I put a lot of bargains on my travel list found under @johnnygayton on Twitter. My trips are originally posted on Instagram at DestinationDoc. I have been vigorously using points, miles, cards, and status for 7 years now. It works.
