‘Nest’ - Stainmore, Cumbria. UK. 2012
Further down the hill from the barn that was yesterday’s ‘Sentinel’ is a little woodland. There’s a little beck in there and a 10ft waterfall we called the secret waterfall because no one ever went there. It was a bit remote to be fair and we lived at the top of the hill where it was even wilder and more remote. It was a great place to be for a while. Needless to say I did a lot of playing around in those woods. ‘Nest ’ came about while playing around with paper structures with a local paper mill. It’s made from truncated cones of paper stapled together around the tree trunk. I wanted something that felt a bit like a wasp nest but built more like a bee hive.
I built a couple of these that year - they’re deceptively big so quite a thing to come across in the woods. Although of course probably no one ever did. .
